ANCIENT WONDERS OF THE WORLD SHOW US THAT MODERN TECHNOLOGY IS NOT NEEDED TO CREATE IMPRESSIVE STRUCTURES. THEY ALSO ALLOW US TO SEE THE PROGRESSION IN CULTURAL VALUES OVER TIME.
Progression in Cultural Values
The Great Pyramid was meant to help protect kings in the afterlife
Of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, four were built for religious purposes: Great Pyramid of Giza, Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zeus, and the Colossus of Rhodes. In the modern day, most large buildings are constructed for business and governing purposes, like the Pentagon, Burj Khalifa, and the Empire State Building. The religions associated with these structures are all polytheistic pagan religions. This shows that polytheism was the dominant religious form in the ancient world, whereas monotheism claims the most adherents today. These wonders really highlight how cultural values have shifted from a heavy emphasis on religion to business and politics, but they also show the evolution of religion from the ancient times to the present day.
